Does the world need to read your book?

Consider what you are writing about before you write your book.

I don't intend for this to be a long post. I want to have you think a little. Have you ever sat down to talk to someone and heard, "You need to write a book?" Friend, Revelation 12:11 says, "They overcame him because of the Lamb's blood, and because of the word of their testimony." Do you have an uplifting story, encouraging or one that will add value to your reader? Have you made it through difficult times and found the strength to continue? Maybe you messed up considerably, and you desire to prevent others from making the same mistake. Perhaps you were hurt, and you want to help readers see that forgiveness is possible. When we, as God's children, have testimonies, it is essential to tell them.

Someone desperately needs to see that everyone goes through these processes. In many cases, people look at the finished product, and if one is not careful, they can assume that things have always been easy. Wouldn't it be nice to share our flaws, not boastful but in humility, to help others see they are not alone?

On the outside, it looks like people want to read juicy memoirs, and sometimes they do, but at the core, when a person picks up a memoir, they are looking for something. In many cases, they could have gone through, or they may be going through what you experienced. Never underestimate the power of a good story. Stories make us more relatable. They give hope and meet our readers where they are. If written correctly, your memoir can help someone make sense of tragedies, find joy in difficult times, and it can help someone find healing or strength to forgive.

Remember when I said I wanted you to think? Well, here it is. Why are you writing a memoir? When you answer this question, you'll be one step closer to writing a book that can impact the world. Are you attempting to write a book? If so, you may want to get my book, How To Keep Them Reading, A Guide To Writing An Engaging Nonfiction Book by Ebony Harris. This book walks you through each stage of the writing process to help readers through the writing process.
